Writer

I have held a desire inside for far too long and now I am going to announce it to the world. I want to write. I do write but I mean, I want to be a writer that is published and people enjoy my writing. Stories by C.S. Lewis and J.R. Tolkien have always inspired me to nurture and exercise my creative side and my dormant imagination. Since last year, I have been honing this skill and working every day to become better at writing.

I am now being paid a good amount - something that pays the bills - for my writing. I have branched into music and have interviewed a handful of bands that will be performing at SXSW in Austin this month.

I have journaled every day and found a mentor - Martha McCarty. She wrote the AMAZING tale of love lost, and found - Five Island Diaries. I am busting my ass to become the best that I can be and am practicing every day.

Thank God for my wonderful and supportive husband, Kurt. Never before did I understand I could really do this. He has supported me and pushed me and is inspiring me to 'get out of the gates' or so we say.

So, I have this dating column on the Examiner.com (which I am worse about writing for than I am about going to church). I got an email a few months back from someone who said they liked my writing, that is was crisp (in referring to my column). I emailed back, we began an email relationship. Turns out this 'admirer' is a published author. I have since met with her - Marty - and she gave me an invaluable piece of advice. Instead of journaling every day for an hour which, is an incredible way to hone my skills - I need to 'blog'. I need to write for an audience. Writing for myself is great and I could probably do that the rest of my life but, if I want to realize my dreams of being an author, I need to begin to write for an audience.

So, I resurrect this blog that I spent so much time with in 2008 and 2009 and I hope it brings me an audience, criticism, support and guidance from people I write for.

Anything written in this blog is not necessarily autobiographical nor is it based on real people or events rather, it is a way to get my writing out there to see what people think of it.
