He's the One

His name is Kurt. Our first date was on a Sunday afternoon at Latte Land in Briarcliff Village. He was already there when I walked in, and he was walking toward me. We hugged and he explained the water all over his shirt was from when the faucet exploded on him in the bathroom. I thought, 'he washes his hands!'

Just kidding.

Actually my first thought was he kind of reminded me of one of my favorite Uncles, my Uncle Steve, he also reminded me of my brother who I adore. And he also just knocked the wind out of me.

He understands, accepts and adores me. He loves the fact that I am the crazy dog lady. He is supportive and passionate and sweet and smart and so hysterically funny.

Honestly though it took me awhile to know he was The One. I think I was scared. No, I know I was scared. Every time I have gotten close to someone and let my guard down they disappoint me so I just assumed it would happen this time. Nothing. There is nothing about him that I dont love. He is absolutely wonderful.

He knew sooner than I did that this was it. Or maybe I knew but just couldn't believe it finally had happened. I guess I never thought I would feel this way again.

His name is Kurt. And I heart him.

Who uses online dating sites?

A decade ago I would have been embarrassed to say I did online dating but things have changed and society is much more comfortable with the concept of meeting someone online. Even my Dad is okay with my Internet dating now, finally in 2008.

Think about it; we are all working on our careers and busy with friends, families and hobbies. How else are you going to meet someone? Guys there are completely eligible bachelorettes on dating sites and ladies there are completely eligible bachelors on dating sites. There are men and women who have careers, are attractive and don't have baggage that are just like you and looking for a relationship.

I used to use eHarmony.com to meet potential significant others. Let's call them PSOs. Got my heart broken a few times but at least I was able to form relationships from some of the people I met. At the time, eHarmony was the 'it' site for online dating. Then us Internet daters went through the phase where Match.com seemed to have the best pool of men and women and that seemed to take away from the pool at eHarmony. Now, it seems Plenty of Fish and Tagged.com are the 'it' dating sites and they are both free.

You do have to be careful about people's intentions on any dating site. If their profile says they party a lot and drink 'several times a week' you can pretty much assume that person is looking for sex and a fling. And that is fine if that is what you are looking for as well. Just make sure in the beginning stages of commuication you are honest about what you are looking for and what you expect.

Think about it, you are gorgeous and smart and have it all together so there are other people in the Internet dating world that are gorgeous, smart and have it all together. The stigma of online dating is nearly gone so go for it! What do you have to lose? After 15 years of dating, and 5 years of online dating I have met 'the one' and I never would have met him if I had not hung in there through it all.

Wow....

That's all I can say, wow. So much has happened since I last blogged. Which, feels like 1962 was the last time I blogged.

In a nutshell:

Family is fine. Just fine. Some drama. I am so incredibly happy with some relationships and sad about some relationships. I am a very forgiving person and very solution-oriented and sometimes other people aren't willing to apologize or be solution oriented as well. The same can be said in work relationships and friendships.

Friends are wonderful. In fact, I am having a little 'thing' at my house Sunday afternoon to celebrate my birthday (which is March 10, not March 8) and I couldn't feel more blessed than I do about the friends I have. In lieu of my usual "girls' nite at Bravo" for my birthday, I am having an open house type-thing. AND I am inviting the "Significant others".

I was named Editor-in-Chief of the firm's Intranet/Internet. That was a huge honor. If nothing else, one more responsibility and talent to add to my list of "Why we can't let her go during this recession, let's fire someone else".

Speaking of the recession, it's bad. Very bad. Companies are laying off left and right. Businesses are vacant; like ghost-towns everywhere. I especially notice this on the bus ride to and from work. So sad. I know its affecting my family, and friends. People I care about. It's affecting the animal community in a devastating way because when people are struggling financially, they get rid of their pets; usually by dropping them at a shelter. And, when people lose their home to foreclosure they relinquish their pets. It's just out of control.

I love my sorority. The girls in it are so loving and wonderful. What I love most about it, is we can all make it exactly what we want to be; some girls are 100% involved in everything and don't know 'outside the sorority'. For the time being I have decided to go to the meetings and be involved in the charitable side, but hold back a bit on the socials. And that's okay. It's just a wonderful group of women.

Tommy and Bibi are pregnant again. I never thought I could love something like I love my niece. When she was born I decided I want children. Yet, through these years of loving her, I have realized if I dont have children, it is okay. I can be the coolest fucking aunt EVER. Just kidding. Well, not really. I mean, I am okay with not having children.

Dating life is comical. As ever. I really do need to write a book. I'm pretty sure I have been on 40 first-dates this year, 2009, so far. If not more. Very comical. I will say usually I am the picky one (many will say it's due to my fear of being hurt) and decide 5 mns into the first date that I do not want to see them again... however what comes around most definitely goes around as I have had 2 people in the last 2 weeks not want to see me again. Very humbling!

Okay well this is all for now. It took me about 10 mns to log onto my blog because I forgot my password.
